CAN I BECOME A HELICOPTER PILOT?

DON’T QUIT YOUR DAYDREAM…

“If you can dream it, you can do it.” —Walt Disney

Flying, like perhaps no other discipline, will challenge your skills in a nearly limitless number of areas and offers a lifetime of adventures whether you’re flying to the other side of the country or just around your home town. It will teach you about the world in ways that you might never have imagined and will give you a sense of accomplishment with which scarcely anything can compare. And the view isn’t bad, either!

It’s easy, however, to talk yourself out of your dream. Am I capable of learning to fly? Is it safe? Can I afford it? The answer is yes. Like thousands of other men and women who were once bystanders, you can learn to fly no matter how much or little you know about aircraft or helicopters. With proper instruction and good common sense, flying is generally safer than your drive to the airport.

Havens Aviation Helicopter Flight School is made up of people who have a passion just like yours, and we want to have the opportunity to share what we love about aviation–and, specifically, helicopters–with you. We offer a range of helicopter flight training courses and can work with you to progress from your private right through to your commercial certificate and beyond.

Introductory Lessons…

The best way to find out if flying helicopters is for you is to roll up your sleeves and give it a go. Our Trial Introductory Flights are ideal for the thrill seeker looking for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or for those considering obtaining their helicopter pilot certificate.

WHY HELICOPTERS?

Flying helicopters takes a wide variety of skills–from understanding basic meteorology and flight science to mechanical aptitude, navigation, and, of course, a certain degree of coordination and motor skills to physically manipulate the controls.

The good news is that no matter what you might feel you’re not good at, your life experience brings to the table aptitude in other areas that are equally important in learning to fly. Even if you know nothing about engine design, you might be more apt at navigation than somebody who frequently works on automobile engines, or your lack of mathematical skill might be overshadowed by your excellent hand-eye coordination. No matter what the gaps are, all of our instructors at Havens Aviation have worked with a variety of experience levels and backgrounds and will focus on your strengths and fine-tune the areas that are unfamiliar to you, no matter what those areas might be.

WHAT TYPE OF HELICOPTER WILL I FLY?

We currently train students in the Schweizer 300CBi and Schweizer 300C, both time-tested training aircraft that serve as the backbone to countless training fleets throughout the world. With its impeccable safety record the Schweizer has no additional training requirements and features a spacious, comfortable cabin.

We also offer a Bell Jet Ranger for turbine transition training for advanced students.
